Muon

MUON is a floorstanding loudspeaker with a four-way closed-box design. Its cabinet is a single curved shell of super-formed aluminium, 6 mm thick, with internal bracing and a damping compound coating to keep the structure rigid and inert at high levels. The smooth shape has no sharp edges, which limits diffraction around the drivers.

The driver complement is six 250 mm bass drivers and one 250 mm lower-midrange driver, plus a Uni-Q array that mounts a 25 mm vented aluminium tweeter, with Tangerine Waveguide, at the centre of a 125 mm midrange cone. Acoustic Compliance Enhancement (ACE) uses activated carbon to absorb air molecules and effectively double the usable enclosure volume. The stated response runs from 25 Hz to 60 kHz (±3 dB).

Each pair is made and measured in KEF's Maidstone workshop. It ships with a certificate of its individual frequency response curve, signed by the craftsman who built it. Production is limited to 100 pairs. Connection is by speaker cable to an external amplifier, with 100 to 400 W recommended.
