The Ci3160REFM-THX is a three-way in-wall loudspeaker built by hand in Maidstone, UK. It carries THX Certified Ultra status and combines two 160mm (6.5in.) bass drivers with a 125mm (5.25in.) Uni-Q midrange and a 25mm (1in.) vented aluminium dome tweeter. The bass section uses a vented motor system designed for in-wall use and reaches down to 35Hz.
The Uni-Q array works as a single point source to widen the listening area and spread sound evenly, with a nominal coverage of 150°. Metamaterial Absorption Technology, developed jointly with Acoustic Metamaterials Group, is applied to the tweeter and is stated to absorb 99% of unwanted sound. The baffle is 11mm thick precision-machined aluminium in a hairline Aluminium Black/Grey finish, designed to limit vibration.
Installation is into a cut-out of 660 mm x 209 mm with a mounting depth of 99mm, and the speaker needs between 30 and 60 litres of rear volume. A paintable magnetic metal grille is used, and an optional black cloth grille is available. It is driven from an external amplifier rated for 50 - 350 W.
