The Authentics 500 is a mains-powered smart speaker with a 3.1-channel driver layout: three 25 mm aluminum dome tweeters, three 2.75-inch midrange drivers and a downfiring 6.5-inch subwoofer with a SlipStream bass port. Total output is rated at 270 W, and the speaker can play Dolby Atmos Music content, depending on the user's subscription plan. The enclosure has an aluminum frame, a leather-like wrap and a Quadrex-style grille that references 1970s JBL designs.
Streaming runs over built-in dual-band Wi-Fi using AirPlay, Alexa Multi-Room Music, Chromecast built-in and Spotify Connect. Bluetooth 5.3 is available for direct pairing, and a 3.5 mm input, Ethernet and a USB-C port are fitted. Google Assistant and Alexa can be active at the same time, subject to country and language availability. Several Authentics speakers can be grouped for multi-room playback through the Google Home or Alexa apps.
On-speaker controls adjust volume, bass and treble, and the JBL One app offers EQ and settings. The speaker retunes itself to its surroundings each time it powers up. Recycled fabric, plastics and aluminum are used in its construction.
