The Space 103 is a phantom-powered large-diaphragm condenser with a 34mm diaphragm, pressure-gradient transducer and cardioid pickup. The capsule is shock-mounted, and a transformer-based design is used to keep distortion low and the sound uncolored. Components include WIMA capacitors and Fairchild resistors.
The sound is described as having an open mid-range, smooth top end and a defined low end. Self-noise is 8dBA, dynamic range is 123dB and the mic handles up to 138dB SPL at 0.5% THD, so it suits quiet, detailed sources as well as loud ones such as drums and guitar amplifiers. It is also suggested for cello, double bass, vocals and broadcast voice work.
The mic connects through a 3-pin XLR male output and needs +48V phantom power, drawing under 5mA. The body is all metal and measures 60 x 60 x 125mm, weighing 0.374kg. A shock mount is included in the box.
