The DT-8A Air is an active 2-way studio monitor with an active crossover and a bi-amped design: 150 W drives the low-frequency woofer and 80 W drives the high-frequency tweeter. An R-Type transformer is used for the output stage. The system is intended for near-field monitoring in recording and broadcast facilities and can be used in stereo or multichannel setups.
The 8-inch woofer has a Nomex-reinforced paper cone, a low-loss SBR surround, a progressive spider and a dual ferrite magnet system with an aluminum short-circuiting ring and copper cap. It sits in a rigid die-cast aluminum chassis. The 1-inch soft fabric dome tweeter has a ferrofluid-free dual ferrite magnet system and a die-cast aluminum faceplate. The cabinet has a diffraction-optimized front baffle and absorbing material inside.
A fully integrated AirCon wireless controller module provides remote volume and mute, high, mid and low range contour control, and a selectable high-pass filter (flat, 60 Hz or 80 Hz). Settings are shown on a graphic LCD display. The series was designed by acoustics engineer Jens Schonemann-Paul.
