The GRX40 is a solid-body electric guitar from Ibanez's RG line, offered in several finishes including Metallic Light Green (MGN). It has a poplar body, a GRX maple neck with a 648 mm (25.5") scale and a 305 mmR jatoba fretboard with white dot inlays and 22 medium frets.

Electronics are a passive ceramic Infinity set: two Infinity RS single-coil pickups in the neck and middle positions and an Infinity R humbucker at the bridge. A five-way selector switch gives neck, neck+middle, middle, middle+bridge-side and bridge combinations, with one volume and one tone knob. The T106 tremolo bridge has six independent saddles for height and intonation adjustment, and the output jack is a one-piece mono unit intended to resist loosening.

Hardware is chrome, and the guitar ships tuned to standard E A D G B E with .009–.042 strings. Ibanez lists the M300C case and IGB540-BK gig bag as recommended accessories.
