The AZ42P1 is a 24-fret double-cutaway electric guitar built around an American Basswood body and an AZ Oval C roasted maple neck. The roasted maple is heat-treated for stability and resistance to moisture and temperature changes. The rosewood fretboard carries mother of pearl dot inlays, luminescent side dots and jumbo stainless steel frets, and the neck joint is shaped for access to the upper frets.

Two passive Alnico Seymour Duncan Hyperion humbuckers are wired to a dyna-MIX10 system: a five-way selector plus a mini Alter switch that turns on a power tap mode, giving ten sound variations including single-coil style tones. The Gotoh T1502 tremolo bridge has steel saddles and a die-cast zinc block, and Gotoh MG-T locking machine heads are fitted for tuning stability.

Controls are one volume knob, one tone knob, the five-way selector and the Alter switch. The guitar is passive, so it connects to an amplifier through a standard instrument cable. A gig bag is included, and Ibanez lists the MR500C as the recommended hard case.
