The LINEAR 9 118 Sub A is a self-powered subwoofer built around one 18-inch cone driver with a 4-inch voice coil in a bass-reflex birch plywood cabinet. It reaches 42 Hz (-6 dB) and 38 Hz (-10 dB) at the low end and peaks at 131 dB SPL. The cabinet weighs 41.5 kg and has two MultiGrip handles.
The built-in Class D biamped amplifier delivers 1,100 W RMS and is controlled by a DSP stage running at 96 kHz with latency under 2.6 ms. The DSP provides a parametric 10-band EQ with variable filter characteristics, low-pass filter, polarity, level, delay, limiter and mute. Filter presets cover Front, Cardioid 1:1, Cardioid 2:1 and Remote, so cardioid arrays can be set up both mechanically and through the filter sets. The stereo preamplifier also makes the unit usable in 2.1 systems.
Connections include two XLR/jack combo inputs, two XLR outputs, a DSP XLR output, Powercon NAC3 in and thru for power, and Ethercon RJ45 network in and out carrying MILAN digital audio. The unit can be controlled remotely with HK Audio DSP CONTROL software for Windows and Mac OS, and it has an M20 pole mount.
