The SUPER is a compact headphone amplifier and USB audio interface. It takes a digital signal from a computer over a micro USB input and drives headphones through an analog mini-jack output, with a further optical mini-jack for a digital output. The USB interface is plug and play and handles up to 24 bit/96 kHz.
Hegel's stated design aims are twofold. A proprietary in-house circuit is intended to cut the electrical noise that computers introduce, with a noise floor of -140 dB. Reference amplifier technology with an output impedance below 1 ohm is meant to keep the sound the same across headphones of very different impedance, so the amplifier does not act as an equalizer.
The case is a single milled block of brushed aluminum and measures just 1.6 x 4.1 x 8.2 cm (HxWxD). The maker lists the SUPER under its discontinued products.
