The H590 combines a high-power amplifier stage with a full digital front end. The output stage uses 12 fast power transistors per channel and is rated at 2 x 301 W into 8 Ω with a 2 Ω minimum load. Balanced and unbalanced analog inputs are provided, and the preamplifier section has dedicated power supplies and a custom volume attenuator.
The built-in DAC keeps signals in their native format and accepts DSD over USB. MQA decoding and rendering is supported on the USB input. For streaming, the amplifier offers UPnP and Hegel's own AirPlay implementation over the network input, and its software can be upgraded.
Control options include built-in Control4 support and 2-way IP control for other smart-home systems. A maximum volume level can be set and locked, and input volume can be locked so that an external app such as Sonos or Bluesound can act as the volume control. The unit also has fixed and variable line outputs and can be used in a home theater setup. It is listed as a discontinued product.
