Description

The 1238A is a three-way active monitor built on the acoustic design of the earlier 1038, with Smart Active Monitoring added. It combines a 385 mm bass cone, a 125 mm midrange cone and a 25 mm metal dome treble driver. Each driver has its own amplifier (500 W Class D bass, 250 W Class D midrange, 200 W Class AB treble) behind an active crossover. A Directivity Control Waveguide keeps the on-axis and off-axis response even, and the enclosure is a reflex-ported MDF cabinet. Quoted short-term maximum SPL is 121 dB or more.

The amplifier is housed in a RAM-L module that can be rack-mounted away from the enclosure, so the speaker can be flush-mounted in a wall. Protection circuitry limits the output level to guard the drivers. Intelligent Signal Sensing puts the monitor into a sleep state drawing 0.5 W or less when no signal is present, and this can be switched off at the rear panel.

The monitor has one balanced XLR analog input, an XLR AES/EBU input and an XLR AES/EBU output/thru. Two RJ45 ports connect it to the GLM network, where the Genelec GLM software handles level, distance delay and room response compensation using AutoCal 2. Calibration needs GLM plus either a 9320A SAM Reference Controller or a GLM Calibration Kit, both sold separately.
