Fumana

Fumana is built around two arrays of sixteen analog bandpass filters. One array filters the incoming audio through 48 dB/oct bands, and the level of each band is set by a fader, which can also be voltage-controlled. The second array, with 36 dB/oct filters, analyses a signal patched into the Modulation input and extracts sixteen envelopes that can drive the band levels.

Band amplitude can also be shaped by four voltage-controlled global functions: Tilt, Peak/Notch, Center and Width. Attack and release of the envelope followers are adjustable. Two semi-normalled inputs let the module work as one sixteen-band processor or as two independent eight-band processors, split into odd and even bands. Two signals can be processed separately and merged to a single output, or one signal can be sent to two destinations, for example for stereo spread.

Individual outputs are available for each band, both for the filtered Main sound and for the Mod envelopes, so analysis bands can be re-patched manually to the synthesis bands as in classic analog vocoders. A global envelope follower output is provided for ducking or parallel processing, and an input for external noise can be used for fricative and sibilant sounds.
