The Scarlett 8i6 (3rd Gen) is a desktop USB audio interface offering 8 simultaneous inputs and 6 outputs. Two third-generation mic preamps can be switched between mic, line and high-impedance instrument levels, and Air mode adds a high-frequency lift modelled on Focusrite's ISA preamps. Four further fixed line inputs handle keyboards, synths and other hardware. Gain Halos show input level around each gain knob.
On the output side there are four balanced line outputs, which can serve as monitor outputs or effects sends, and two headphone outputs with their own level controls. Converters run at up to 24-bit/192 kHz. A loopback function supports streaming and sampling, and the Focusrite Control application handles routing and monitor mixes.
The unit connects to Mac and Windows computers over USB-C (USB 2.0 protocol) and adds MIDI I/O and S/PDIF in and out for outboard gear. It uses an included power supply rather than bus power. A software bundle covers Ableton Live Lite, Pro Tools Intro+, Cubase LE and the Hitmaker Expansion plugin collection.
