Clarett 8Pre USB is a rack-style desktop audio interface offering eight analogue inputs built around Focusrite's Clarett mic preamp design. Two of the inputs can take instruments, and an Air mode with impedance switching alters the tone of connected microphones, modelled on the transformer-based ISA preamp.
On the output side there are ten line outputs and two independent headphone outputs, so several monitor and cue mixes can run at once. Digital connectivity covers eight channels of ADAT and S/PDIF, which allows further preamps to be added. Converters work at up to 24-bit/192 kHz with a stated 118 dB dynamic range.
Routing and cue mixes are handled in Focusrite Control, available for Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The interface comes with a software bundle that includes Brainworx bx_console Focusrite SC, the Focusrite Red 2 and Red 3 plug-in suite, XLN Audio Addictive Keys, the Softube Time and Tone Bundle and Ableton Live Lite. A three-year warranty applies.
