White Finger

The White Finger is an analog optical compressor in pedal format. It is described as a lower-cost relative of the Black Finger, using multiple FETs where that model uses vacuum tubes. The compression approach follows the same theory as the maker's professional NY-2A, and the aim is transparent, quiet, long sustain that keeps the attack of the played note intact.

Two optocouplers give two distinct compression characters. The LED optocoupler produces a faster attack, while the lamp optocoupler gives a softer, blooming compression. Controls include pre-gain, which sets how hard the instrument signal drives the compressor, a sensitivity knob that sets how the compression is triggered, and a compression amount control for setting the ratio.

The pedal has true bypass and ships with a 40DC-100 power supply. The maker lists it as discontinued in 2023, so it is found on the used market.
