Voice Box

The Voice Box combines a harmony generator and a vocoder in one digital pedal. In harmony modes it listens to the connected instrument and builds two- to four-part harmonies from the sung line, in the same key as the accompaniment. Two harmony voices produce a 3rd and a 5th, and a Voice Mix knob blends between a low and a high harmony voice. Separate reverb controls set the amount of reverb on the dry vocal and on the harmony vocals.

The vocoder section uses a 256-band design with adjustable harmonic enhancement and a controllable formant shift. A Gender Bender knob shifts the formant to give a more male or female character. Nine modes are selected with a rotary encoder, and settings can be saved as presets and recalled with a footswitch. Most modes need an instrument played alongside the voice; only the Octaves and Unison + Whistle modes work without one.

A microphone connects to the XLR input, which has a gain switch and switchable phantom power. The instrument goes in on a quarter-inch jack and passes out to an amp or other pedals. Processed and dry vocals leave on a balanced XLR effect output that can feed a mixing board or an A/D converter. A power adapter is supplied.
