STRING9

The STRING9 is a polyphonic digital pedal from the Electro-Harmonix 9 Series. It processes a regular guitar signal into string ensemble and string synthesizer voices, and needs no modifications, special pickups or MIDI. A rotary switch picks one of nine programs: Symphonic, June-O, PCM, Floppy, AARP, Crewman, Orch Freeze and Synth Freeze, plus Vox Freeze. The programs cover orchestral, analog string synth, sampled string section, optical-disc sampler and choir-and-strings sounds. Three of them add the EHX Freeze effect, which samples and holds notes or chords with infinite sustain.

Two knobs, Ctrl 1 and Ctrl 2, adjust parameters specific to each program. Separate Effect and Dry volume knobs set the mix at the Effect output. A second Dry output always carries the input signal at unity gain through a buffer, so the dry and processed signals can go to separate destinations.

The pedal has one input, an Effect output and a Dry output. Bypass is buffered by default, and an internal DIP switch changes it to mute. A status LED shows when the effect is on and blinks while waiting for a Freeze trigger. It runs from the supplied 9.6VDC power adapter.
