The Silencer is an analog noise gate that can be placed inline in a signal chain or wrapped around a group of pedals through its send and return jacks. Three knobs shape its behavior: Threshold sets the level needed to open the gate, Reduction sets how far the gated signal is attenuated (from -70dB to +4dB), and Release sets how long the gate stays open after the signal falls below the threshold (from 8ms to 4 seconds).
A footswitch with an LED engages the gate or puts it in bypass. The bypass is buffered, so an effects loop connected to the send and return jacks stays in the signal path even when the gate is switched off. The signal path is mono.
Connections are four 1/4 inch jacks: input, output, send and return. Power comes from the included 9V battery or from an optional external supply through the built-in AC jack, such as the EHX 9.6DC type. The pedal draws 22mA and has a compact, rugged chassis.
