Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi

The Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi is an analog fuzz built for bass guitar, with a tone modelled on the Black Russian Big Muff of the 1990s. Volume, Blend, Tone, Sustain and Gate knobs set the output level, the dry/fuzz mix, the tone of the fuzzed signal only, the amount of fuzz and the noise gate threshold.

A footswitchable Crossover section splits the signal: a second-order high pass filter (HPF) feeds the distortion circuit, while the dry signal passes through a second-order low pass filter (LPF). This keeps the low end clear and focused while the fuzz stays bright. A toggle switch on the input applies 10dB of attenuation for basses with active pickups. A separate bypass footswitch selects between the effect and a buffered bypass, and LEDs show the state of the effect (red) and the crossover (green).

The pedal has three outputs: a main effect output, a buffered direct output of the dry bass signal, and a low impedance XLR DI output for mixers and recording gear. It sits in a die-cast chassis and runs on a 9V battery, which is included, or on an optional 9.6VDC power adapter that is sold separately.
