The Bass Metaphors is a bass preamp built like a channel strip. It combines a switchable compressor voiced for bass, a treble and bass EQ with a level control, and a footswitchable, adjustable distortion. The distortion is designed to blend with the compression and EQ to give the bass body and a solid low end. It also works as a quiet direct box.
On the input side there is a high-impedance instrument-level jack. Outputs include a balanced XLR at +4 dBu line level, a 1/4" output that can be run balanced or unbalanced, and a separate unbalanced 1/4" dry output carrying the unprocessed signal.
The unit is housed in a compact die-cast chassis and ships with a 96DC-200BI power supply. It was discontinued in 2019, so it is found on the used market.
