The Bad Stone is a reissue of a 1970s phase shifter, keeping the original analog circuit and three-knob layout while adding a few updates for current players. It uses six phase-shifting stages, and it was the first phaser to offer a variable feedback control.
The Rate knob sets the speed of the internal low-frequency oscillator, from a slow sweep to a fast oscillating warble. Feedback sets how much of the circuit's output is routed back to its input, which determines the depth of the effect. An Auto/Manual switch chooses between LFO-driven modulation and manual mode, where the LFO is disconnected and the Manual Shift knob sweeps through the full range, so the phase can be held at one point.
The pedal is housed in a compact die-cast enclosure with true bypass switching and an LED that shows when the effect is engaged. It is mono, with a quarter-inch input and a quarter-inch amp output. It runs on an included 9V battery, or on an optional 9.6VDC-200mA adapter that is sold separately.
