The Carina BS2434 is a two-way vented-box bookshelf speaker from ELAC's Carina series. It pairs a 5-1/4 inch aluminum-cone woofer with a JET folded ribbon tweeter, crossing over at 2.7kHz. The stated frequency range is 46Hz to 30kHz, and sensitivity is 85dB at 2.83V/1m.
The woofer cone has a compound curvature shape and sits on a rigid cast chassis with an oversized magnet and a vented pole piece, which are intended to lower distortion and improve control and power handling. The JET tweeter is handcrafted in Germany. The softly curved cabinet has a downward-firing bass reflex port, which gives more freedom in positioning the speaker.
The speaker is meant to be driven by an external amplifier rated at 30 to 150 watts per channel, with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms and a minimum of 4.8 ohms. It is made in Satin Black and Satin White and can be used in stereo or multi-channel setups. Matching Carina models include the CC2414 center channel and the FS2474 floorstanding speaker.
