The R1600TIII is a powered bookshelf speaker pair built around a Class D amplifier with digital signal processing and dynamic range control, which keeps distortion in check at high volume. Each cabinet houses a 4 inch (116mm) bass driver and a 19mm silk dome tweeter, and the enclosures are made entirely of MDF to limit acoustic resonance.
Bass, treble and master volume controls sit on the side panel of the speaker. A wireless remote handles volume, mute and power, so levels can be changed from the listening position.
Sources connect through two sets of RCA inputs, labelled PC and AUX, each with its own input sensitivity. The speakers have no subwoofer output, so a separate self-powered subwoofer can only be added by splitting the source signal with an RCA Y-splitter; without a low-pass filter the speakers keep reproducing bass in that setup.
