The Hoof is a fuzz pedal built around a hybrid design that pairs NOS germanium transistors with silicon. The aim is the tone of a vintage-style fuzz with better temperature stability than old germanium units. The germanium transistors are hand-matched to set specifications so that one pedal sounds like the next.
Four knobs control the sound: Fuzz sets the amount of gain, Level sets the output volume, Tone moves the balance from bass to treble, and Shift adjusts mid content, scooping the mids when turned clockwise and boosting them when turned counterclockwise. Suggested settings and audio samples for both guitar and bass are provided by the maker.
The pedal uses true bypass with electronic relay-based switching, so audio does not pass when the pedal is unpowered. It runs from a 9 V DC supply with a 2.1 mm negative-center barrel and draws 15 mA. The unit carries a limited lifetime warranty.
