Cloven Hoof
The Cloven Hoof Fuzz Grinder is a silicon-transistor fuzz pedal with more than four times the gain of the original Hoof, built for guitarists and bassists wanting a tight, gritty fuzz. It has four controls, including a Shift control for mids, and is no longer in production.

The Cloven Hoof is a fuzz pedal that takes the Hoof circuit and swaps its germanium transistors for four selected silicon transistors. The change gives cleaner cleans, higher gain, better temperature stability and a grittier, heavier fuzz, with more than four times the gain of the original Hoof. Key resistors are NOS carbon composition parts, adding some vintage character.
Four knobs shape the sound. Fuzz sets the amount of fuzz, Level sets the output volume, Tone moves from bass to treble, and Shift cuts or boosts the mids. Tone and Shift are re-voiced from the original for a smoother sweep and finer control over the low end. The maker specifically recommends trying the pedal with a bass guitar.
The pedal is true bypass with electronic relay-based switching, so no audio passes when it is unpowered. It runs from a 9 V battery or a 9 V DC supply with a 2.1 mm negative-center barrel plug, and should not be run at higher voltages. The pedal is built by hand in Akron, Ohio and is no longer in production.
