The RS 4 Mini is a three-axis handheld gimbal that carries cameras up to 2 kg (4.4 lbs), such as a Sony A7 series body with a 24-70 mm F2.8 GM II lens. Its axis locks release on power-on and engage on power-off or sleep. Teflon-lined interlayers on the pan and roll axes, a tilt-axis fine-tuning knob and a quick-release plate with three positioning slots make balancing easier. The 4th-generation stabilization algorithm adapts motor strength to the camera in use.
Switching to vertical shooting means loosening a single-side knob and rotating the horizontal plate 90°, which takes about 10 seconds. Two follow modes are offered: Responsive for fast orbit shots and Smooth for regular follow shots. A touchscreen with an auto-lock function and a front dial are used to adjust parameters. The optional DJI RS Intelligent Tracking Module attaches magnetically to the tilt axis and keeps a person in frame at up to 10 meters. It works in PF and PTF modes only.
After Bluetooth pairing, the gimbal's record button starts and stops recording on the camera or phone, and the joystick controls zoom on PZ lenses and Clear Image Zoom. The stated maximum runtime is 13 hours, and a 30-minute charge gives about 5 hours. A smartphone can be mounted with the separate Phone Holder.
