The Ronin-S is a handheld three-axis gimbal with an integrated grip, built to stabilise cameras up to a reference load of 3.6 kg. Pan, tilt and roll axes can each turn at up to 360°/s, and the pan axis rotates continuously. Orientation modes include upright, underslung and flashlight, plus a Roll 360 mode that is set up through the Ronin app. Sport mode and a lock option let the gimbal respond faster to movement, and three user-editable profiles are preset to slow, medium and fast speeds.
Power comes from a 2400 mAh, 14.4 V intelligent battery (34.56 Wh). It runs for up to 12 hours when the gimbal is well balanced and charges in about two hours with a 24 W USB adapter. The camera tray has 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting holes and an M4 hole. A 12 V/2 A accessory port, a camera control port and an 8-pin port allow shutter control and accessories such as a focus motor.
The gimbal connects to the Ronin app over Bluetooth 4.0, which covers auto tune, SmoothTrack settings, motor parameters and intelligent shooting modes (Panorama, Timelapse, Motionlapse, Track). USB-C and the DJI Assistant 2 software for Windows and Mac handle firmware updates. A DJI Pro Wireless Receiver extends control range to as much as 3 km in open, interference-free conditions.
