Description

The PMA-1700NE is a stereo integrated amplifier that drives passive loudspeakers only. It uses a single push-pull power stage with UHC-MOS devices and a dual EI-core power transformer. Output is 70 W per channel into 8 ohms and 140 W per channel into 4 ohms. Volume, balance and tone are electronically controlled through a potentiometer-operated interface, and Source Direct and Analog Mode switches are on the front panel.

Digital audio is handled by a PCM1795 DAC with Advanced AL32 Processing Plus. The rear USB-B input runs in asynchronous mode with full isolation and accepts PCM up to 384 kHz/32-bit and DSD up to 11.2 MHz. The unit is listed as Roon Tested. Two optical inputs and one coaxial input accept signals up to 192 kHz/24-bit.

Analog connections include a phono input switchable between MM and MC, CD and AUX line inputs, a recorder loop, an external pre input for using the power amp section alone, and two sets of gold-plated speaker terminals that support bi-wiring. A headphone output mutes the speakers when used. A system remote is supplied, and the amplifier can be controlled through a network player's app over the remote control bus. It has no Wi-Fi or HEOS.
