The DCD-1700NE plays SACD (stereo layer and multi-channel discs), audio CDs, CD-R/RW and DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW discs. Files burned to CD-R/RW in MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, FLAC, ALAC and AIFF are supported up to 48 kHz/24-bit. Files on DVD discs are supported up to 192 kHz/24-bit, and DSD files up to 5.6 MHz.
Digital data is handled by a Texas Instruments PCM1795 current-segment DAC combined with Advanced AL32 Processing Plus, which uses interpolation, up-sampling and bit-extension. The DAC uses a dedicated master clock design. The disc drive uses an S.V.H. (Suppress Vibration Hybrid) mechanism, and the power transformers sit near the feet so vibration is routed to the ground. A Pure Direct mode is provided.
Output is through one gold-plated RCA stereo analog pair, plus one optical and one coaxial digital output. The player has a Remote Control Bus terminal, so it can be controlled together with the PMA-1700NE amplifier from the system remote. It has no Bluetooth and no USB input. The front panel is aluminum with a single-line display and a four-level dimmer.
