The DacMagic XS converts digital audio from a computer into analogue sound using an ESS9023 24-bit DAC. It sits between the computer and a pair of headphones or an external audio system, so the sound no longer passes through the computer's own audio circuitry. It has onboard volume control with 53 steps.
It works in two USB modes. In USB 1.0 mode it handles 16/24-bit audio at sample rates up to 96kHz. In USB 2.0 mode it handles 16/24-bit audio up to 192kHz. The listed headphone load is a minimum of 12 ohms, with an output impedance of 0.5 ohms and an output level of 2V RMS.
Connection is by a Micro USB input for power and audio and a 3.5mm analogue output. The unit measures 30 x 10 x 53.5mm and weighs 100g. A pouch bag, USB cable and quick start guide come with it. The model is listed as archived and was offered in black, gold, blue, red and titanium finishes.
