The UMC22 is a bus-powered USB audio interface that records at 48 kHz. It has two input channels: a combination jack on the front panel for a microphone or line source, and a separate quarter-inch instrument input for guitar or bass that needs no external DI box. The microphone channel uses a preamp designed by Midas and offers switchable +48 V phantom power for condenser microphones.
For monitoring, the interface has a headphone output and a direct monitor select switch through the mix control, so the performer can hear the input without waiting for the computer. Status and signal clip LEDs show that the unit is running and when the input level is too high.
The front combination jack accepts balanced XLR, balanced quarter-inch TRS and unbalanced quarter-inch TS plugs. At the back are the phantom power switch, the USB port that links to the computer and also supplies power, and two quarter-inch TRS outputs for studio monitors. It works with Mac and Windows computers and with common recording software such as Pro Tools, Ableton Live and Cubase.
