The RD-78 is built on true analog circuitry and models the tones of the CR-78, one of the first drum machines to use a microprocessor and to let users store their own patterns. It provides 15 individual drum sounds and 34 preset rhythms covering styles from disco, funk and rock to new wave and synth-pop, including fills, rolls and breaks.
Patterns can be programmed with the 16-step sequencer, either by layering up to four instruments on each step or by writing them in step by step. Up to 250 bars can be chained, so longer arrangements can be built and played back as a single sequence.
For integration, the unit offers MIDI and USB connectivity for working with current gear. A real analog clock and DIN sync are included for locking it to vintage hardware alongside modern instruments.
