The 369 combines a compressor and a limiter for each of its two channels. The compressor section is intended for gentle, musical gain control, while the limiter section reacts more firmly to peaks. Controls are rotary switches, so settings can be recalled exactly and matched across both channels.

The compressor offers Threshold, Recovery, Gain and Ratio controls, with ratios from 1.5:1 up to 6:1. The Recovery presets set a baseline decay time that adapts to the incoming signal. The limiter has its own Threshold, Attack and Recovery controls, with a recovery range of 50 to 800 milliseconds. Each compressor and limiter can be bypassed individually, and the unit can be switched between stereo and mono operation.

A Control switch selects between Internal control, where Mono/Stereo and Bypass are set from the front panel, and External control. External control uses the Tandem Control Voltage socket on the rear panel, for use with a mixer such as the Behringer WING or a custom remote device. The 2U rack chassis can also be fitted in a rack case for location recording or live use.
