The 1273 is a two-channel preamp built on a discrete Class A circuit. Each input and output stage uses a custom-built Midas transformer. Every channel has gain controls for mic, line and instrument sources, and a tone switch changes the transformer impedance to suit different microphones, such as dynamic or ribbon types, including vintage models.
Gain is set with an electronically controlled, resistor-stepped rotary switch that offers up to 80 dB. The EQ section has inductor-based rotary switches with fixed frequencies: lows at 35, 60, 110 or 220 Hz, mids at 360, 700, 1600, 3200, 4800 or 7200 Hz, and highs at 10, 12 or 16 kHz. A high-pass filter offers 50, 80, 160 or 300 Hz settings. Fixed steps make it easy to recall a setting exactly.
An EQ switch bypasses the on-board gain and EQ settings so the processed signal can be compared with the unaltered one. A 7-segment LED meter and a level knob at the end of the signal chain handle quick level monitoring. The unit is housed in a 2U rackmount chassis.
