BASIL

Basil is a stereo delay buffer for Eurorack that runs at up to 41.66 kHz and 16-bit. Delay time has stereo spread and fine-tune components and can follow an external clock through the Sync jack. A V/Oct delay input allows the module to be used as part of a Karplus-Strong voice, with feedback compensated at the shortest times to keep decay consistent as pitch changes.

The Space section adds Blur, which diffuses the signal either directly or inside the feedback path, a feedback filter with low-pass and high-pass modes, and multi-taps with odd or even spacing. A Speed section runs the buffer at half speed, or at quarter and eighth speeds in the extended range, giving longer delay times in octave steps. The LO-FI setting switches off the anti-aliasing filter for downsampled textures. Freeze turns the buffer into a read-only loop that can be layered with incoming audio.

Inputs and outputs are stereo, with the left input normalized to the right. One assignable CTRL knob and CV input can modulate time, stereo, fine, dry/wet, feedback, speed, freeze, lo-fi, blur, filter or taps. Firmware is updated over micro USB, and a free VCV Rack version is available for trying it out.
