The S8 is a front-ported, self-powered subwoofer built around an 8" long-throw woofer that fires downward. It is rated at 125W RMS, with a total peak output of 250W (AES), and is intended for living rooms, family rooms and home theaters as an extension to Audioengine powered speakers or another music system.
The rear panel has a stereo RCA / LFE input and a stereo mini-jack input, plus a USB charging port. Controls cover volume, crossover and phase, and there is a power switch, a power/standby indicator and an AC inlet. An auto-sleep standby feature turns off the amplifier stage when no music is playing. Isolation elastomer feet are included to reduce vibration and resonance, and the cabinet is magnetically shielded so it can sit near a video monitor.
It connects by cable to the variable RCA output on A2+ and A5+ speakers. A W3 Wireless Audio Adapter, sold separately, can make the link wireless. The S8 comes in Matte Black or Hi-Gloss Piano White.
