Description

The AT4050 is a side-address condenser microphone built around a 1-inch dual-diaphragm capsule. Three polar patterns can be selected on the body: omnidirectional, cardioid and figure-of-eight. The dual-diaphragm design is meant to keep the chosen pattern consistent across the frequency range.

The diaphragm is a 2-micron gold-vapour-deposited film that goes through a five-stage ageing process so it keeps its characteristics over years of use. The circuit has no output transformer, which avoids low-frequency distortion and follows fast transients. An acoustically open housing reduces unwanted internal reflections. A switchable 80 Hz low-cut filter and a 10 dB pad are built in.

The microphone is powered by 48 V phantom power and connects through a 3-pin XLR-M output. It comes with the AT8449a shock mount, a 3/8"-5/8" thread adapter, a dust cover and a case. The model is listed as no longer in production.
