SP1000 AMP
The SP1000 AMP is a clip-on amplifier module made for the Astell&Kern SP1000 player. It adds a higher-output headphone stage with selectable gain for driving full-size, high-impedance headphones, and suits SP1000 owners who want more power.

The SP1000 AMP attaches directly to the SP1000 portable player and locks to its body, so the two work as one unit with no extra interconnect cable. It offers low and high gain settings. On high gain, the unbalanced output reaches 6.2 Vrms and the balanced output 10 Vrms with no load. The amp can be switched on and off from the player's quick settings menu, and gain is changed in the full settings menu. Output is re-adjusted each time the amp is turned on or a headphone is unplugged, as a hearing-protection measure.
The module has its own 3,700 mAh battery, rated for about 9 hours of continuous playback on the unbalanced output. Player and amp charge together, and the SP1000 volume wheel controls both. Compared with the older AK380 AMP module, the output levels are higher in both gain modes.
It takes input over USB Type-C and has a 3.5 mm unbalanced output and a 2.5 mm balanced output (4-pole only). While the amp is attached, the player's optical out, USB-DAC, USB-Audio, line-out and CD-ripping functions are unavailable. The body is aluminium with a stainless steel front decoration, in three colours.
