The SE180 is a portable music player whose DAC and amplifier sit in a detachable module that attaches to the main body with a double-locking mechanism instead of screws. The main body and module are physically separated, which isolates the audio circuit from power and RF noise. The default module, SEM1, uses a single ESS ES9038PRO DAC and offers 3.5mm unbalanced, 2.5mm balanced and 4.4mm balanced outputs, with normal and high gain settings.

The player has a 5.0-inch 1920x1080 display, an Android-style navigation bar, 256GB of built-in memory and a microSD slot supporting up to 1TB. A LED volume wheel can show volume and the bit depth of the playing track, and can be switched off. AK File Drop allows wireless file transfers from a PC, smartphone or FTP program on the same network.

For connectivity it has Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz) and Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD and LDAC. BT Sink lets it receive audio from another device, and it can also transmit to Bluetooth headphones. It is Roon Ready, supports MQA playback, and acts as a USB DAC from a USB Type-C port. Firmware updates are delivered over the air.
