The CD Ripper MKII is the second generation of Astell&Kern's CD ripping accessory (model PEM15). Once it is plugged into a compatible Astell&Kern player and activated from the player's notification bar, a disc is ripped by tapping the CD ripping icon. Ripping options can be set beforehand in the player's settings.
The player looks up album data on Gracenote's servers and writes the matching track information and cover art into the ripped files. If a disc is not in the database, album title, artist, genre and release year can be typed in by hand. Ripping speed can be set to normal, fast or very fast, and files are saved as WAV or FLAC.
The aluminium body has a rectangular disc slot and extra weight to limit vibration, and a triangular spring damper underneath absorbs the movement of the spinning disc. It connects with the supplied cables: USB Type-C to Micro USB, or Micro 5pin to Micro 5pin. A power adapter rated below 5V 2A may stop the unit from being recognised.
