The AK300 plays PCM files natively up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Higher-resolution 32-bit material is downsampled, and DSD64 and DSD128 files are converted to PCM for playback. It has a 20-band parametric equalizer driven by a dedicated DSP, and a 200 femtosecond VCXO reference clock. The PEQ works with PCM from 8 kHz to 192 kHz at 8, 16 and 24 bits, but not with DSD or 32-bit audio.
The player has a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen, a metal pressure-sensitive touch home button and a rear-mounted volume knob. Storage is 64 GB of built-in memory plus one microSD slot for cards up to 256 GB. Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n, 2.4 GHz) allows over-the-air firmware updates and use with the DLNA-based AK Connect app for phones and AK Connect HD for tablets.
Outputs are a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a 3.5 mm optical out and a 2.5 mm balanced out (4-pole only). A micro-USB port handles charging and data transfer. It also lets the player work as a USB DAC with a computer, limited to 24-bit/96 kHz with PEQ not applied. The player is compatible with the Astell&Kern AMP, cradle and CD-RIPPER accessories.
