The MPK225 combines a 25-key semi-weighted keybed with piano-style action, velocity sensitivity and aftertouch, plus octave up/down buttons that reach a 10-octave range. Eight velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads and eight 360-degree encoders sit alongside it, each arranged in banks for wider control.
MPC workflow tools include Note Repeat and Full Level, and an arpeggiator with adjustable resolution, range and patterns. It is also set up to work with Akai Pro VIP3.0 for browsing and controlling a VST instrument and effect library, including layering of up to 8 instruments per VIP instance.
The bundled software covers Ableton Live Lite, MPC Beats (with over 2GB of content and 80+ audio FX), and the Hybrid 3 and Xpand!2 virtual synthesizers. It connects over USB, which also provides power, with 5-pin MIDI in and out, a sustain pedal input and an expression pedal input.
