The SP-5 is a foldable closed-back, over-ear dynamic headphone built with a 40 mm gold-plated transducer. It covers 8 Hz to 38 kHz with a sensitivity of 95 dB at 1 mW per ear and a 70 Ohm impedance, which suits both studio interfaces and mobile sources. It was developed together with Ultrasone, with the aim of bringing the tonal balance and transient response of ADAM Audio studio monitors to a portable form.
The design uses Ultrasone's S-LOGIC Plus technology, intended to give stereo imaging closer to speaker playback for judging pan, depth and space. Ultrasone's ULE (Ultra Low Emission) design adds mu-metal shielding. Isolating ear padding and a weight of 290 g are meant for long sessions and for tracking with little mic bleed. The headphones are hand-crafted in Germany.
The cable is detachable and two are supplied: a 3 m spiral cable with a gold-plated 6.3 mm jack and a 1.2 m straight cable with a gold-plated 3.5 mm jack. A design case is included for transport. Replaceable components allow a degree of self-maintenance.
